I've been a Barkers customer for years, as were my relatives before me. Great shop something for everyone
We have only recently moved to Northallerton from York and comparing Barkers to John Lewis is like comparing apples to pomello's. Barkers is what John Lewis used to be (IMO): friendly, attentive and professional. Nothing seems to be too much trouble.
Food was tasty. Service could be made much more efficient by self serving the sandwich and cake choices... as it is the till operator is running up and down serving and cashing up.
A not so typical department store. Barker's carry a lot of interesting stock from quality manufacturers and producers always worth a look around. Cafe and eating facilities are above average and prices are not expensive
